Analysis of Deviation from Scriptural Authority: KJV Bible as Benchmark

By Rev. Lord John McIlwraith,  and Ainsworth Korg PhD.

The KJV stands as God’s preserved Word (Ps. 12:6-7). We evaluate doctrines against it: soteriology (Eph. 2:8-9: faith alone), ecclesiology (1 Pet. 2:9: priesthood of believers), Mariology/Eucharist (Exod. 20:4-5; 1 Tim. 2:5: no mediators), morals (Matt. 19:6; Rom. 1:26-27), ecumenism (2 Cor. 6:14-17: separation). Ratings: Low (KJV-aligned), Moderate (partial), High (clear deviation). Evidence from creeds (e.g., Trent), councils, encyclicals.

Group Soteriology Ecclesiology Mariology/Eucharist Morals Ecumenism/Globalism Overall Deviation
Roman Catholicism High (works/sacraments; Trent Sess. VI) High (papal infallibility; Vat. I) High (Mary co-redemptrix; Ex. 20; Lumen Gentium) Moderate (anti-contraception firm; Humanae Vitae) High (Assisi; Nostra Aetate) High
Eastern Catholicism High (synergism; councils) High (papal primacy) High (icon veneration; Ex. 20) Moderate High (ecumenism) High
SSPX Moderate (pre-VII but sacramental) Moderate (anti-VII but hierarchical) High (traditional Mariology) Low (strict morals) Moderate (critique ecumenism) Moderate
Sedevacantists Low (closer to faith alone) Low (priesthood emphasis) Moderate (reduced Mary focus) Low Low (anti-ecumenism) Low
Old Catholics Moderate Moderate (conciliar) Moderate High (progressive morals) Moderate Moderate
Liberal Catholics High (universalism) High High High (inclusivity) High High
Independents Variable (Low-Moderate) Low Moderate Variable Low Moderate

Sedevacantists rank closest to KJV fidelity, rejecting post-VII “innovations.” SSPX resists but retains high Mariology. Roman core deviates most, per evangelicals like White: papal claims eclipse 1 Pet. 2:9. Historical: Trent (1545-63) anathematized sola fide. Counter: Catholics cite James 2:24 for works. • Note on Bible Translation: Rev. John McIlwraith and Ainsworth Korg, PhD, utilize the Authorized King James Version (KJV) as their preferred Bible translation for its historical fidelity and clarity in doctrinal study. However, the First Pentecostal Evangelical Church of Canada (FPECC) does not mandate that members or clergy exclusively use the KJV, encouraging personal discernment in selecting translations that align with our Statement of Faith and the pursuit of scriptural truth.
