Acts 14 is the first mention of Paul preaching a “Gospel”.
The verse says THE Gospel – not “his Gospel”.
…
Acts 14
1 And it came to pass in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Hebrews, and so spake, that a great multitude both of the Hebrews and also of the Greeks believed.
2 But the unbelieving Hebrews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren.
3 Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands.
4 But the multitude of the city was divided: and part held with the Hebrews, and part with the apostles.
5 And when there was an assault made both of the Gentiles, and also of the Hebrews with their rulers, to use them despitefully, and to stone them,
6 They were ware of it, and fled unto Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and unto the region that lieth round about:
7 And there they preached the gospel.
The problem of Bible “study” is those doing the studying are in no capacity to Understand.
St. Paul writes to Timothy in 2nd Timothy 2:1-15 about who is fit to Preach-Teach-Minister. The keynote verses are 6 & 7:
6The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.
7Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.
Paul is advising that any who are called to Minister etc, “Ought be Born-Again”. IE Ezekiel 36:26-27 Born-Again.
This ties to verse 15, the famous “Study Unto The Approval of God” which is aimed at those in ministry.
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
So, what I’m saying is that until we’re Ezekiel 36:26-27 Born-Again, we have no Guidance or Witness from God The Holy Spirit, and no New Heart Of Father’s Flesh. Without Being so Born-Again, there is NO Understanding. Here is what God Says HE Will DO For HIS People: from Ezekiel ch 36
26A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
27And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.
So… the effort to Study and Understand, as practiced and sought by those unable to directly Answer Father’s Call…
How can anything but failure be the result? Failure and confusion…
Pretty plain in Matt 13 where The Apostles ask Jesus “Why do you always Teach Using Parables?” vs 10, right after HE Gave the parable of The Sower.
11He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
12For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.
13Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.
14And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:
15For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
What Jesus IS Saying here (hear?) is that those seeking understanding by any means other than their Heart, are NOT Whom HE IS Concerned With.
All the “study” in the world will NOT Enable your Understanding.
There’s more to this Witness in Matt 16:13-20 where Jesus Asks The Apostles “WHO do you say I Am?” Only Peter KNOWS: “Thou Art The Christ! Son of The Living God!” Jesus Says “Only MY Father could have Put That Knowledge Upon Your Heart” and Instructs them not to tell anyone HE IS The Christ…
Want more Witness? Matt 22:1-14 where Jesus Tells Us Father’s Purpose. The Basic Why HE Sent HIM To Redeem US and Enable Us To Answer HIS Call. It’s another parable… Concluding in vs 14 with: “For Many Were Called, But Few Are Chosen!”
The vs 14 Witness is that Few Will Come Unto The Father in surrender and submission, making their Leap of Faith and thereby Being Ezekiel 36 Born-Again…
Everything of Father and Jesus is a matter of Heart.
Do you KNOW WHO HE IS?
If so, That’s Because Father Chose YOU and Called YOU To Come Unto HIM and Be Born-Again.
The Good News is that Father-God Wants us to Abide With HIM Now and Forever, KNOWING Us Personally and Directly.
Everything is about your Trusting HIM With All You Are and Ever Will Be, and then Taking Action to Tell HIM So.
Unable to Take Action?
Then your Faith (not being ablle to manifest for God) without that work, is dead!
We are told to Seek God – and one of the BEST ways is to read scripture. Most of scripture is not difficult to understand.
I believe that Paul exhorts ALL to “study to show thyself approved”.
2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God,
a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,
rightly dividing the word of truth.
2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given
by inspiration of God,
and is profitable for doctrine,
for reproof, for correction,
for instruction in righteousness:
The vast majority of pastors, priests and theologians don’t deliberately mislead / teach false doctrines.
But the fact remains that many of them don’t do the research required.
